UNIFFIED is a global 501(c)(3) organization of educators, also registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the Philippines, committed to advancing excellence in teaching, purposeful leadership, community service, and educational innovation.
The organization was first conceptualized in 2013 in New York City, founded by Filipino-American educators from New York and New Jersey who shared a vision of building a professional community dedicated to empowering educators and strengthening educational collaboration across borders. UNIFFIED was formally incorporated in 2014 and officially launched in April 2014.
Soon after its founding, the organization experienced remarkable growth. By May 2014, chapters from North Texas, Los Angeles, Louisiana, Florida, Arizona, and North Carolina joined the expanding UNIFIED Inc., with South Carolina following shortly thereafter.
A significant milestone in the organization’s history occurred in May 2014, when the National Officers were inducted during the First International Educators Summit, hosted by the UNIFFIED Washington DC Chapter. The ceremony marked the beginning of UNIFFIED’s national leadership under the guidance of Dr. Ronie L. Mataquel, who served as the organization’s National President.
The United Federation of Fil-Am Educators, Inc. (UNIFFIED) was officially launched on April 12, 2014, at Norman Thomas High School in Manhattan, New York, marking a significant milestone in the organization's history. During the launch, the New York/New Jersey Chapter unveiled UNIFFIED's official logo and banner, designed by Jenny Castaneda. Though UNIFFIED was conceptualized in 2013 by Lumen Castaneda (Founder) and Ronie Mataquel (co-founder), it wasn't until 2014 that the organization was incorporated and registered in New Jersey as a recognized non-profit organization.
The launch of UNIFFIED in Manhattan prompted other teachers' organizations to join the UNIFFIED NY/NJ Chapter, which includes Louisiana, Maryland, Washington, DC, South Carolina, North Texas, and Los Angeles Chapters. The first induction of National UNIFFIED officers at the Largo Hotel in Maryland was hosted by the Washington, DC Chapter and joined by other chapters across the United States on May 14. 2014.
Today, UNIFFIED is the largest Fil-Am educators association in the United States, with additional chapters in various states and regions. Despite limited resources, UNIFFIED has undertaken several projects in the Philippines to support communities affected by natural disasters and other calamities. These initiatives include providing shelter, feeding programs, Gabay sa Kinabukasan scholarships, Kalinga, professional development sessions for educators, and many more.
In 2017, UNIFFIED opened its membership to Filipino educators in the Philippines and held an international educators summit in South Cotabato. The organization has awarded grants, donated school supplies and equipment, and conducted professional development programs nationwide. UNIFFIED has recognized outstanding educators and community leaders in the Philippines and other countries.
Recently, UNIFFIED launched the UNIFFIED Multidisciplinary International Research Conference (UMRCI), providing a platform for educators from different countries to share their research findings. The organization promotes cooperation with other local, national, and international organizations in education and civic services.
As UNIFFIED approaches its tenth year, it takes pride in being more than just an organization; it is a selfless family. Through service, UNIFFIED has translated love into action and touched countless lives on multiple levels. The organization remains committed to LEADING, INNOVATING, and SERVING the community.
